Game Recap: SF 6, WAS 2

Twelve days ago, the Giants looked horrible. The pitching and offense were nowhere to be found, they had just lost 5 games in a row, and were 5.5 out of first place. Add in that the Giants were going on an 11 game road trip, and things weren't looking good. I don't think anyone was expecting the Giants to have a successful road trip. But, you see, the Giants don't make any sense and they never will. Fast forward to now and the Giants have gone 7-4 on their toughest trip of the year and sit just 3.5 games out of first place going into the All-Star break.

Speaking only about today's game, most of the damage was done in the first 3 innings by who else, Travis Ishikawa and Buster Posey. Ishikawa was first, hitting a 2-run single in the first innning. Two innings later, Posey hit a 2-run triple, giving the Giants a 4-0 lead. Posey's road trip looks like this: 20 hits, 6 HR, 15 RBI. Hot damn. Apparently, that's never been done by an NL rookie over that span. And this is what Ishikawa's road trip looks like: 10 hits, 1 Grand Slam, 11 RBI, .345 average. Pretty great numbers, and if Ishikawa keeps playing like this, the front office may feel like they don't need to acquire anyone. It seems as if he's now the everyday first baseman.

Bumgarner was again very solid, but the bullpen tried to ruin it. After going 6 innings with 6 K's and NO WALKS, Chris Ray showed why the Rangers were so willing to let him go. He came in, walked the first batter he faced, allowed a single that scored a run, and then walked the bases loaded. Not a good game for Ray, but Sergio Romo came in and retired the next two batters.

Great series, great road trip, and now we have to go 3 days without baseball. But it's alright, the Giants could use the break and hopefully they can carry this momentum into the All-Star break.
